Was Truman right to drop the bomb?

“Dropping the bomb stopped the war and saved millions of lives”

President Truman

“We didn’t need to hit them with that awful thing”

General Eisenhower

Did President Truman act with honest motives when he ordered the dropping of the Atomic Bomb on Hiroshima and Nagasaki? Or were there alternatives and was his motive really nothing to do with saving American lives? Have your say.
