Hi Mr.J Sir, Aylisha from 8RS Here. Just want to say this is a great website for school work and is great for revision. The goegraphy site is really good as well. I hope you are enjoying having your new form! One of my best friends is in 7NJ, Her name is Jasmin Hinwood. See you around school! Bye!
Thanks Aylisha. A little secret – Mrhistory is really Mr Alfano. Thanks for the jokes! I’ll tell Mr Jenkins you enjoyed the rocks day. Do you think the Year 8s would appreciate a bit of blogging on what to do with the Wellington monument? It was supposed to be built better and have a statue of the duke on the top but in 1830 he became the Prime Minister and was soon hated by most of the country (he was conservative after all). It was a time when people were struggling to get the vote and he did his best to stop ordinary people getting it. So the money for the monument dried up. Personally (as despite being a history teacher I’m not into hero worship of these so called great guys – it’s always men! – from the past) I’d leave it to gradually fall into ruin. To quote my favourite poet:
I met a traveller from an antique land
Who said: “Two vast and trunkless legs of stone
Stand in the desert. Near them on the sand,
Half sunk, a shattered face lies, whose frown
And wrinkled lip and sneer of cold command
Tell that its sculptor well those passions read
Which yet survive stamped on these lifeless things,
The hand that mocked them and the heart that fed.
And on the pedestal these words appear:
“My name is Ozymandias, king of kings:
Look upon my works, ye Mighty and despair!”
Nothing beside remains. Round the decay
Of that colossal wreck, boundless and bare,
The lone and level sands stretch far away.

If you want to see what I’d do to the statues of most of the rich characters who have them made then go to http://www.leonkuhn.org.uk/pdf/sw1963.pdf
